In My Bag: Austin, TX

Austin.JPG

Tyler and I are headed to Austin, TX for a little getaway. It was a last minute decision thanks to stumbling upon a cheap flight and hotel, but we’re both really looking forward to exploring a new-to-us city. In fact, we’ve never been to Texas other than the random layover here and there. We’ve heard great things!

This is only the second time we’ve been away from Marin since she was born, but she’s extremely excited to spend a few days with Grandma and Grandpa, and Tyler and I are looking forward to a few days to relax and soak in our latest news. Did you catch my IG post last week? In case you missed it or aren’t on social media, we’re unexpectedly anticipating the arrival of Baby #2 this fall! I think I’m still in shock all these weeks later, but I have no doubt life works out exactly as intended.

But all of that to say, packing for this trip was a little trickier than normal. Not only have we not been anywhere in quite some time, but I’m suddenly dressing a very transient body. I’m at that awkward second trimester stage where I can still wear my normal jeans and shorts in the morning, but by evening and after a few meals, things are TIGHT. I even tried on a few of my old maternity clothes thinking that might be the solution, but those pieces were way too big. Instead, I decided to purchase a few dresses (I previously owned zero - ha!) and take the comfortable route. Here’s what’s in my bag:

I N M Y B A G : A U S T I N

  • Gingham Midi - I grabbed this on a whim during a recent trip to Target, and I was pleasantly surprised with how well it fit. The only size in our local store was an XS, so that’s what I grabbed. I was a little nervous about the waist being too tight on my growing belly, but I still have oodles of room. The fabric is a great weight for several seasons and looks really nice for the price.

  • Baja Backpack - I have carried this since Marin was born, and it is the BEST bag I’ve ever owned. I love the versatility of a backpack, especially with a little one, but this is also incredibly chic and functional. Highly recommend!

  • Bask Sandals - Cocolico shoes are absolutely beautiful and oh so comfortable. I bought these during a trip to Philadelphia a few years ago, and they have been well worth the investment. I don’t think they sell this exact style anymore, but the Bedford Sandal looks nearly identical.

  • Thoreau Dress - I’ve been eyeing this dress ever since it was released a few months ago, and I finally decided it was worth the investment for this season of life. It is absolutely beautiful in person, and I’m so glad I purchased. I ended up buying a size S because the XS was out of stock by the time I finally made up my mind. I probably would prefer the XS if I had my choice, but the S is by no means oversized and I think it’s probably the better investment for a growing belly. As a heads up… I was slightly worried when I opened the package to find that the dress was quite sheer with no lining. After putting in on, however, it’s not see-through at all and the cotton drapes beautifully. The super light fabric should be ideal for summertime.

  • Jean Jacket - A wardrobe staple for me, I wear this jacket all the time.

  • Linen Jumpsuit - I wear this thing ALL the time. It’s incredibly comfortable, breastfeeding friendly, and it has a slim fit yet plenty of room for a growing belly. I wear a size 0 which is perfect, although I would size up if you’re busty or want to wear later in pregnancy.

  • Birkenstocks - I’ve had these for years and they’re still my favorite. Incredibly comfortable, go with anything, and perfect for swollen pregnant feet. :)

  • Leather Pouch - I’ve had this little bag for several years, and it is extremely handy - especially when traveling. I can easily throw it in my backpack to keep things organized yet use it on it’s own at night to dress things up for dinner.

  • Linen Mini - I bought this shortly after finding out I was pregnant and trying to figure out what to wear. I didn’t wear many dresses when I was pregnant with Marin and I actually owned zero prior to this pregnancy, but I thought it was a worthwhile investment for summer. This dress is easy to throw on and go and the material is great for warmer months. I have an XS which has plenty of room.

  • Pajamas - My pajama situation is embarrassing. I’m pretty sure everything I own has holes, but I spotted this set at Target and decided to give it a try for our trip. The material is extremely soft and I think the shorts should fit for the majority of my pregnancy. I bought a size XS.

  • Bralette - I have this bralette in both light nude and warm nude, and they are both comfortable and versatile. I love that I can criss-cross the straps for maximum versatility and the merino wool material is extremely moisture wicking. I’ve been wearing these for about six months now and really like them.

  • Sandals - I bought these in 2019 and love how simple they are. They don’t have any cushion or much support to speak of so I don’t recommend them for endless walking, but they look great for short trips running errands. Throwing these in my bag for a nicer/dressier option than Birkenstocks yet not heels. Plus, they take up next to no space.
