Operation Bar Cabinet Underway

Bar1

Tyler and I have been searching for the perfect bar cabinet FOREVER. Or at least it feels like forever. We actually found one that we really liked at Crate & Barrel about nine months ago, but $700 is a laughable amount of money to spend on something so minor. I mean, really? $700? Does it make my drinks and wash my glasses, too? Geesh. It sure was pretty, though.

We got the bright idea that Tyler could make a replica of the Nash cabinet. I'll spare you the details, but let's just say that didn't turn out quite like we pictured... :) I'm fairly certain he is still having nightmares about that whole project. So the search continued!

Well I'm happy to report that after months and months of searching, we FOUND A WINNER! Leave it to Midland Arts and Antiques Market to pull through. We love that place. Have you been? Tyler deserves all the credit for this find, but I'm happy to give it to him because we found the perfect cabinet for our house - at a fraction of the cost none the less. Just $150 and we brought home this winner.

Oh, by the way, pro tip! If you go to Midland and pay cash, they will give you a 10% discount. Every little bit helps!

Isn't she a beauty? It's actually an old bookcase, but I figure we can make it into anything we want. The best part? It actually comes completely apart, so our options are endless. It was displayed with the three levels, but we're just planning to use two in our space. I'm sure I'll come up with another use for the third later. For now it's just hanging out in the dining room...

I haven't done a single thing to the cabinet yet. I haven't even washed it.... it was a busy weekend! Regardless, I think the thing looks fantastic.

I'm sure a good wash will do wonders, but we're also throwing around a few other ideas. Maybe some brass or copper knobs? We're even considering putting a brand new top on it. Marble? Reclaimed wood? Butcher block? Cement? I haven't decided. What do you think?

We plan to add storage for glasses and old decanters. I can't wait to see it all come together! For now, let's just relish in the fact that we HAVE A CABINET! Woohoo! :)
