Week 6: Little By Little

Week 6: Little By Little

Work on the house is moving along, little by little. I don't have any monumental updates to provide this week as we had some delays due to rain, but we did get a whole bunch of stone delivered! Yay stone! :)

We were hoping to see the basement and garage floors poured as well as the backfill in place, but mother nature had other plans. Instead, we are slatted for floors to be poured early next week with framing to start in the middle to end of the week. I can't wait for the framing to start! All of these dreams and visions in my head are about to come to life. Let's just hope it looks as great in person as it does in my head... kidding, kidding - sort of.

See all of that stone piled up in between the concrete walls? That is our front porch. They basically filled it from the ground up with stone - over 9 feet of stone!

Possibly even more impressive, the amount of stone in the photo below. That's our garage although it sort of looks like a giant playground right now. You may be wondering why the heck our garage is sitting up so high and why they filled it with stone...

Well the height of the house and garage is due to the fact that we installed a gravity flow septic system. Basically we want to ensure that the house is high enough above the septic field to ensure proper flow. Everything will be leveled out and graded later, but it just looks a little funny for the time being.

As for the stone inside of the garage, that's because stone doesn't shift and compact as much as dirt. Therefore, when the cement is poured on top to create our floor, we shouldn't have any movement problems over time. Don't worry, we won't be driving up a ramp to get in our garage - it just looks that way right now.

So that's the current status. We are prepped and ready for slabs and framing. Be sure to check back next week. I have a feeling I'll have some good stuff to share. :)
