Weekend Plans : Apple Orchard
If you are looking for something to do this weekend, I would highly recommend a trip to a local apple orchard. Fresh apple cider, apple pie, applesauce. Mmmmmm! What better way to ring in fall than some handpicked apples?
Tyler and I visited Tuttle Orchards in Greenfield, IN last weekend and had the best time. It was a gorgeous day and my all-time favorite baking apples, Jonathan, were ripe for picking. My Mom and Grandma swear by Jonathan apples for apple pie, so I knew I had to get some. At the mention of apple pie, Tyler was drooling and more than willing to pick as many apples as necessary. :)
We had never been to Tuttle Orchards. Foot traffic picked up considerably as they day progressed, but the morning was fairly calm and relaxing. We had the opportunity to pick apples, cut fresh sunflowers, visit the local market, and even purchase some hot apple cider - delicious!
Tyler and I even ventured down a dirt road in hopes of finding some green beans to pick, but we ended up stumbling upon a huge pumpkin patch. So even if you don't have the opportunity to visit this weekend, I'm sure there will be lots of pumpkins for purchase in the next few weeks. There are many apple orchards and pumpkin patches around Indiana, so get out, enjoy this beautiful weather, and support our local growers!
