Bathroom Makeover | The Reveal
There is nothing better than a before and after, am I right? Well you are in luck because our modern bathroom update is complete! (Or at least complete enough to reveal... :)) As you may recall, I wanted to make some minor updates to our main floor bathroom. The existing layout was perfectly fine, but the finishes just weren't quite my style. I didn't want to throw a ton of money at the space, so Tyler and I agreed on some cosmetic updates and jumped right in.
Since major renovation wasn't in the budget, the blue-green glass subway tile on the walls and beige travertine tile on the floor had to stay. I wouldn't have picked either of these options had I designed the bathroom from the start, but both were in great shape and it seemed silly to rip them out. Plus, I was really inspired by the landscape at Joshua Tree during our visit in January, and I finally decided that we could make updates elsewhere to tie it all together and give it the desert landscape feel I loved.
Here is what the space looked like before.
Like I said, the space was fine. Fine! Such a lackluster word, isn't it? Who wants "fine"? Not this girl!
We gave ourselves a budget of $500 to update the paint, hardware, fixtures and lighting. It took some blood, sweat and tears, but we sure modernized the space! It's amazing what a little hard work can do.
Here is the same shot taken before and after:
It's extremely difficult to photograph this space, but even a crappy picture shows just how much better it looks! I'm telling you, paint does WONDERS. Before we hop into the full blown reveal, here is a breakdown of the budget:
b u d g e t
- Shower/Tub Faucet: B - $150 | A - $155 + $32.95
- Sink Faucet: B - $120 | A - $103.46
- Paint: B - $50 | A - $50
- Lighting: B - $50 | A - $43.71
- Cabinet Hardware: B - $50 | A - $60
- Towel Hooks: B - $20 | A - $35.09
- TP Holder: B - $20 | A - $15.84
- Art: B - $35 | A - $0
- Accessories: B - $25 | A - $0
TOTAL: Budget - $520 | Actual - $496.05
We ran into several hurdles that caused us to spend a bit more than planned on the bathroom fixtures, so we had to DIY all of our art and accessories from items we already had on hand in order to stay on budget. I'm still on the hunt for a bath mat and we may try to add on to the existing cabinet in a effort to gain a bit more storage space, but for now we're going to call this makeover complete!
I absolutely love the mix of polished chrome and brass!
