Guest Room Makeover
Spare bedrooms are great, but it's amazing how quickly they fill up with junk. We have three bedrooms in our house - one upstairs and two downstairs. We sleep in one of the downstairs bedrooms and the other has functioned as an office/Tyler's closet/storage room since the day we moved in. The upstairs bedroom was designated as the guest room.
Over the past few months, we have (once again) been painting. How many coats of paint does it take to start qualifying as insulation? Just kidding... Our office is one of the only rooms in the entire house that has avoided my painting fury. I knew I wanted to paint it white, but Tyler suggested turning the space into another guest room. Since we didn't use the desk often anyway, I figured it was the perfect time for a little guest room makeover.
We hauled all of the office stuff out, moved the bed from upstairs down, and voila! Not too bad. The room actually felt bigger with a bed in it. The wall color on the other hand? Terrible. This is a south facing room and it STILL felt dark.
We patched up some nail holes and got to painting. By the way, painting white over dark colors isn't a lot of fun. We even bought nice paint hoping our work would be cut in half, but no such luck. We used Behr Marquee as it is supposed to be the best of the best, but I wasn't impressed. If I were to do it all over again, I would go back to Clark + Kensington Paint and Primer in One color matched to Behr's Ultra Pure White.
Regardless, it doesn't get much better than a fresh white wall. Other than the cost of paint, we didn't spend a dime in here. Most of the decor is stuff we previously had in our master bedroom. There are definitely a few details I would like to adjust, but I'm happy with the current state for now. I do, however, have plans to DIY some wall decor, so stay tuned for more to come!
